Step
1. Insert the batteries
Insert the
batteries in the robot (at the back), close the compartment door,
and move the ON/OFF switch on the robot (back side) to ON. Ensure
that the robot comes 'alive' and speaks. Put the robot on the
floor.
Step
2. Switch 'On'
On the VRC
(the 'Commander' or 'watch') there is a single sliding switch
with 3 positions. The middle position is OFF. Slide the switch
to one direction and see that the LED lights up in Green (or Red).
If your robot is 'Red' then slide the switch to the position where
the LED is Red. If your robot is Blue, slide it to the Green position.
IMPORTANT: Don't forget to switch OFF when finished playing.
Now can
you see the little dark LED at the front of the Commander? Face
it towards the robot and make sure there is no obstacle between
it and the robot.
Step
3. Speak the commands
Now you need
to speak your first command. Note that all commands except STOP
have TWO parts. You say the first part first, wait for a single
beep from the 'watch', then immediately say the second part (right
after the beep - Don't wait!).
When you speak, talk
LOUDLY from a distance of about 5" between your mouth and the
Commander. The commands are shown in the chart below. Go ahead
and practice. Start with the 'Fire!' command...
Hints
for practice:
If you speak a command but nothing happens, or something unexpected
happens - don't worry! Maybe
your voice was not loud enough, or you were too far from the microphone
of the Commander, or you spoke too fast. Take your time and try
again.
There
is almost certainly no problem with the Voice Commander or the
Robot. It is common that first time users of the Voice Commander
need to practice a bit and developing your command skills is part
of the game.
